Willy Tröger (2 October 1928 – 30 March 2004) was a German footballer who played as a striker, spending his entire career with Wismut Aue, [1 ] and making 15 appearances for the East Germany national team.
The competition started with a qualifying round comprising the 30 finalists of the 15 regional district cups (German: Bezirkspokal), 54 teams from the third tier II.
After the 1954–55 season the league played a transition round in autumn 1955, followed by five seasons, until 1960, where it played in the calendar year format.
