Peter Ware Higgs, CH (29. května 1929 Newcastle upon Tyne, Spojené království [1 ] – 8. dubna 2024 Edinburgh, Spojené království [2 ] [3 ]) byl britský teoretický fyzik, který v roce 1964 [4 ] předpověděl existenci částice nazvané později…
Peter Ware Higgs (29 May 1929 – 8 April 2024) was a British theoretical physicist, professor at the University of Edinburgh, [7 ] [8 ] and Nobel laureate in Physics for his work on the mass of subatomic particles. [9 ] [10 ]
The Higgs boson was named for him. It was a key element of the Standard Model, which encapsulated all human knowledge so far about elementary particles.
Higgs received his Ph.D. from King's College in 1954. He then moved to the University of Edinburgh, where he has remained, with the exception of a few years spent in London in the late 1950s. Peter Higgs has two sons.
Peter Higgs was born on 29 May 1929 in the Elswick district of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He graduated with First Class Honours in Physics from King’s College, University of London, in 1950.
Peter Higgs was a British physicist who was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize for Physics for proposing the existence of the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle that is the carrier particle of a field that endows all elementary particles with mass…
