What is concealer best used for?
Generally speaking, it’s used to “conceal any imperfections you would like to cover up,” says Avendaño. “Some of these imperfections and concerns could be acne, scars, under-eye darkness, pigmentation, and redness,” adds Phillips.You can also use a concealer product to contour and highlight various parts of your face, depending on the shades you buy. “Sometimes all you need is a little concealer in certain areas to give you a boost and more youthful appearance,” concludes Avendaño.
How do you keep concealer from creasing on older skin?
“My most important tip for applying concealer on mature skin that differs from younger skin is less is more,” says Phillips. “The more concealer you put on, the more it’s prone to creasing. I would focus the concealer primarily where the discoloration is.” Rivero agrees, adding, “Use products that will deposit enough coverage or color without having to pile on a ton to get to your desired result.”What are some tips for applying concealer to mature skin?
Temperature is actually key when applying concealer to mature skin. Liu likes to “warm up the concealer so it’s easier to blend.” Restrepo agrees, saying “the warmth from your fingers will help blend the concealer into your skin so it looks natural,” adding that using fingers on mature skin is more effective compared to a brush because they won’t pull on the skin.In terms of where to apply your concealer, according to Avendaño, “There isn’t too much of a difference in areas of application with concealer for mature versus younger skin,” he tells us. “The areas you’d hit are the same, but the formula might be different depending on the needs of the person’s skin.” Liu likes to start off with the smallest amount and build up if needed. Adds Restrepo, “Lightly dab a few dots of the concealer under the eyes, or a single dot for a smaller imperfection you want to cover.”
Finally, if you need a bit of extra TLC for dry skin, Rivero suggests starting with a hydrating primer so that the formula lays better.
