Steindl graduated from the Technical University of Budapest and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He was a teacher at the Budapest Technical University from 1869.
It was designed by Hungarian architect Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style and opened in 1902. It has been the largest building in Budapest since its completion after the Iparcsarnok.
