John James, or Johann Jacob O’Byrn as he was then known, settled in Neider Kosel, ear Bad Muskau, Saxony, serving in the newly raised Cuirassier Regiment von Nassau. romoted to major in 1732, he served during the War of the Polish Succession in the campaign f 1733-4 and in 1739 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1741 he was made colonel nd proprietor (Chef) of the former Cuirassier Regiment Graf Promnitz, which was henceforth nown as the Cuirassier Regiment O’Byrn. Johann led his regiment against the Prussians in 1e campaigns of 1744 and 1745. On 23" October 1745, he was wounded and taken prisoner t the Battle of Katholisch-Hennersdorf. In 1747 he was promoted to major general and in the yllowing year, his regiment was amalgamated with the Cuirassier Regiment von Arnim.
