Burnley Football Club (/ ˈ b ɜːr n l i/) is a professional football club based in Burnley, Lancashire, England. The team compete in the Premier League, the top tier of the English football league system.
Burnley first played against foreign opposition—Scottish club Cowlairs—in 1885, and embarked on their first overseas tour in 1914, playing sides from the German Empire and Austria-Hungary.
Burnley are one of only five teams to have won all four professional divisions of English football, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United and Portsmouth.
