Gordon was a classmate of Andrey Tarkovskiy at the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), in the directing department taught by Mikhail Romm, graduating in 1960.
He directed 9 feature films that we know of, with 60s and 70s films having IMDb ratings of 6.7 to 7.8, he was a classmate of Tarkovsky and they made their first short films together, and he married Tarkovsky's sister.
